Frequently Asked Questions

How do I start counselling?

The first step is to phone for a no obligation chat and if you are happy to proceed we can book an initial consultation.  The initial free of charge, 30 minute consultation will give you the opportunity to know if counselling is right for you, without any further obligation for you to continue.

What can I expect in a counselling session?

At the initial consultation, I will take a brief history of what is going on for you physically and psychologically and discuss what you want to achieve from Therapy  and how  best we can achieve this together.  There is no typical session, as we are all unique individuals, therefore it is a space and time for you to share your thoughts and feelings.

How long will I be attending counselling?

The standard format is weekly, but this can be negotiated at our first consultation.  Normally I offer 6 sessions with a review after that.  Sometimes just one or two sessions is all that is required.

Will my counselling sessions be confidential?

Counselling sessions are confidential, and I abide by the BACP code of ethics, as regards confidentiality and this will be explained to you at the first consultation.

I will not disclose your personal information with anyone and your information will be held securely under the terms of the Data Protection Act 1998 (legislation.gov.uk)

I adhere ethical to the BACP Ethical Framework  which mandates that I am supervised in my practice, this is to support and challenge my process as a therapist.

Within supervision I focus on counselling work and do not discuss names or personal details.
